What is cross linked hyaluronic acid?
Cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) is a revolutionary advancement in the world of dermal fillers, designed to enhance the longevity and effectiveness of hyaluronic acid-based injectables. Used extensively in facial aesthetics, cross-linked HA provides a more durable, stable, and natural-looking result compared to non-cross-linked versions of hyaluronic acid. It is the key ingredient in many popular dermal fillers, including those used for lip enhancement, wrinkle reduction, and overall facial volume restoration.
Natural hyaluronic acid, if injected as itself, will be fully absorbed by the human body within a few days. By cross-linking the free hyaluronic acid, the HA exists in long chain structures, which make the filler last longer. Not only does this prolong the absorption of HA, but it also helps the filler retain its shape.
How Does Cross-Linking Work?
Cross-linking refers to the chemical bonding of individual hyaluronic acid molecules into a network structure. This is achieved using cross-linking agents, typically substances like 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), which links the hyaluronic acid chains together. The process increases the viscosity and elasticity of the filler gel, providing more structure and longer-lasting volume compared to non-cross-linked HA.
Cross-Linking Agents: These are chemicals added to hyaluronic acid to form bonds between individual HA molecules, creating a 3D network structure. Tri Aqua fillers use a cross-linking agent, BDDE.
Reaction Time: The cross-linking process can be controlled to adjust the filler's properties, such as its firmness, cohesiveness, and longevity. For example, a high degree of cross-linking results in a firmer gel that can last longer but may be more suitable for deep wrinkles and volume loss, while a lower degree of cross-linking creates a softer gel ideal for fine lines or lip enhancement.
Cross linked hyaluronic acid injection areas:
Forehead Wrinkles: Whether dynamic (caused by facial movement) or non-dynamic, permanent horizontal wrinkles and permanent vertical frown lines on the forehead can be filled in to restore a smoother, more youthful appearance to the forehead.
Under eyes: Sunken and dark areas under the eyes will make you look more tired than your age. Tri aqua Fillers can correct dark circles, which are sometimes caused by fat loss in the under-eye area.
Cheeks, jawline, and chin: Fat sacs evenly distributed across the face create a smooth facial contour. However, as we age, these fat pockets diminish and the skin loses its suppleness, resulting in a sunken and gaunt face, with loose skin that sags below the jawline. Dermal fillers can add volume to the cheeks and chin to compensate for lost volume, eliminating chin and sunken areas. They can also correct "marionette lines," which are creases that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin.
Scars, including acne scars: If you have acne scars, injectable fillers can help fill in hollows and smooth skin texture. It can also treat sunken and sunken surgical scars.
Nasolabial folds: When you smile, wrinkles form at the corners of your mouth, extending up to the outer edge of your nose. These deep folds are called nasolabial folds and can be very prominent. Injectable fillers can plump up folds and make them less noticeable without sacrificing the beauty of your natural smile.
Nose: Dermal fillers can correct bumps or unevenness on the nose. This is often referred to as a non-surgical nose job. It doesn't make the nose smaller, but it camouflages bumps on the bridge of the nose.
Lips: Injectable fillers can plump up thin, flat lips. Lip injections restore volume lost through aging, fill in vertical lines that extend up the nose (smoker's wrinkles), and achieve a more aesthetically pleasing lip contour.
Do and don'ts after filler?
Avoid applying intense heat to the injection area, which includes hot tubs, saunas, sunbathing, or tanning.
Avoid itching, or picking around the injection site.
Avoid alcohol on the day of treatment, and try to avoid it for 2 days after.
Avoid exercising for 2 days or until the swelling subsides.
1. How long do cross-linked hyaluronic acid fillers last?
Tri Aqua cross-linked HA fillers typically last between 9 to 12 months, depending on the area of treatment, and individual metabolism. More cross-linked gels, like those used for deep volume restoration, tend to last longer than softer fillers.
2. Are cross-linked hyaluronic acid fillers safe?
Yes. Tri Aqua fillers are hyaluronic acid-based. As the body naturally produces hyaluronic acid, there is a very low risk of allergic reactions. However, mild swelling, bruising, or redness may occur at the injection site, which typically resolves within a few days.
3. Can cross-linked hyaluronic acid fillers be reversed?
Yes, if you're unhappy with the results, hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve cross-linked HA. This makes them a safe and reversible option for patients who want to change their look or correct any issues.
4. Can I get cross-linked HA fillers if I have sensitive skin?
In most cases, yes. Because hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the body, it is generally well-tolerated, even by people with sensitive skin. However, it's always best to discuss any concerns with your practitioner before the procedure.
5. How does cross-linked hyaluronic acid differ from non-cross-linked HA?
Cross-linked HA is chemically modified to create a more durable and longer-lasting filler. Non-cross-linked HA breaks down quickly in the body and doesn't provide the same lasting volume. Cross-linked HA also has a higher viscosity, which allows it to be used in areas that need more structure, such as the cheeks or jawline.
